With the main event done, it’s time to review the fight and talk about what I noticed.
Round 1: Pereira is very calm in the cage, using his low kicks and jabs to either the head or the body to keep you at his range until he feels he has an opening with a big strike like a hook. Prochazka kept switching stances to offset the kicks of Pereira and was feinting a level change to get Pereira to react and catch him with a big flurry. Pereira stays active with his body jab to try to find an opening when Prochazka tries to defend them. Pereira ends the round with his signature counter left hook and drops Prochazka just before the bell. Pereira was very accurate and sharp in this first round and easily won it for me, even without the knockdown at the end of the round.
Round 2: The first strike Pereira throws in the round is a left high kick, and it drops Prochazka, and he ground and pounds until the referee stops the fight.
Overall Thoughts: Alex Pereira is a scary man. He fought this fight beautifully. Constant jabs to the body and kicks to the leg and body made Jiri think about dropping his hands to stop them, which sets up the head kick while Jiri’s hands are down. I don’t know what is next for either fighter, but Pereira will be a tough challenge for anyone, and I could even see a world where he gets bored and goes for the Heavyweight title, which I could see him winning. Jiri is still fun and wacky in the cage, so hopefully, we will see him get back to winning ways against other ranked fighters.
